File Extension Ged

The .ged file extension has reportedly been linked to seven different applications. The first and most common use is associated with family history files known as GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) files. These data files contain family history information such as names, dates of birth and death, places of residence, relatives names, family events, etc. The data is saved in ASCII text which makes it easily usable by most genealogy software programs. Meta data stored within individual records makes it possible to link the records throughout an entire family tree project. Being able to link individual records makes for much easier family tree creation. The .ged file format was developed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka the Mormon Church) as a means of making computer searches more efficient.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

Reggie E., N. Dakota

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

Carol S., Saskatchewan

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

The .ged file structure is similar to a numbered list in a word processing document. All top level records are numbered with a zero, the next level is number 1, the next level number 2, and so on. Although this is very simple data structure, it's ideal for a family tree. Links and queries can be confined to a specific field at a specific level, making searches much faster. The only file errors one would expect from this .ged file relate incorrectly formatted data. It is uncommon for GEDCOM files to be written manually because most software packages automate the task as data is entered. Any incorrect formatting of the data would be program issue rather than an individual file issue.

More Info Regarding File Extension Ged

There are currently dozens of software products that use the GEDCOM file format such as Taurus FamilyTree, GEDitCOM, TREEFIC, Ancestral Author, Genbox Family History, Roots Magic, LifeLines, GeneWeb, Ages!, GRAMPS, Leister Reunion, Taurus FamilyTree. It must be noted that while most genealogical software products support .ged, there are a handful that use a proprietary format which cannot be imported by other software packages. GEDCOM files can also be converted form .ged format to .html with the use of a conversion program. GED Browser is a free program that will convert your .ged files to .html, creating charts of family members and descendants along with a site map. Other conversion tools include GED4WEB, UncleGED, and GED-GEN.

Another program commonly associated with the .ged extension is an open source project called Game Editor. This application is a cross platform tool for creating 2-D computer games. The .ged file extension is given to a project file, which contains all the code to make the game run, including game data and settings. Individual pieces of the game like graphics, sounds, fonts, .etc are saved in a data folder with their own standard file extensions. The Game Editor .ged file is specific to this software and is not accessible with any external software. Errors have been reported when using .ged files from different versions of Game Editor. These errors do not show any specific pattern so it's like the cause is the individual program installation or operating system.

A third association of the .ged file belongs to Arts & Letters Draw, an entry level drawing program with many all of the standard features. In the case of this software. .ged stands for Graphic Environment Document. It is the native environment for this software, but images .ged files can be exported to one of fifteen others. The Arts & Letters .ged is a proprietary one which most converter software does not support.

There are four other unverified associations with the .ged file. In no particular order they are: an editor file from EnerGraphics IMAGE EDITOR editor, A GoldEd compiled configuration file, A Micrografx geometry file, and a Wicat Image. No further information on these file formats is currently available.
